An Aussie kid has revealed how he caught the eye of the Crown Prince of Denmark at the coronation of King Frederik X and Queen Mary in Copenhagen at the weekend.

Appearing on Sunrise on Monday, Lucas appeared at Brekky Central alongside his brother Dane and their parents Leon and Susan to give a first-hand account of their brush with royalty.

The newly-crowned king and queen were joined by their children Christian, 18, along with his siblings Princess Isabella, 16, and twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, both 13, on the balcony of the Christiansborg Palace.

Lucas revealed he was noticed by Crown Prince Christian after he saw him waving an Australian flag from the balcony, amid a sea of Danish flags being waved by the crowd.

Speaking of the coronation highlight, Lucas said: “(I liked it) when the whole family came out on the balcony, especially when the Crown Prince Christian noticed the Australian flag that I was holding,” Lucas said.

“I guess he just stared at me (after he noticed),” he added.

The revelation left Sunrise host Nat Barr and Matt Doran stunned — as father Leon explained the moment.

“He sort of pointed a little bit towards (us),” Leon said.

“It was hard because obviously they were on the balcony but you could see him lean back when he was looking over in our direction — talking to the others on the balcony.”

Surprisingly, it wasn’t the first time Leon and Susan have met the newly-crowned King and Queen of Denmark, with the couple previously enjoying a pleasant exchange at a church service in Copenhagen.

“(We met) the Crown Princess and Crown Prince of Denmark here (in Copenhagen) at a church ceremony,” Susan said.

“Leon was wearing his yellow Australian rugby top and (Mary) noticed it, so she came over and had a chat and it was quite lovely,” she added.

Susan went on to describe the royals as “personable,” and “relaxed,” during the meeting.

“They’re very down to earth — I think that’s why they’re so loved by everyone here in Denmark and even other European countries,” she said.

“They’re just very relaxed. laid back, and I think they’re willing to listen to what people have to say which makes them more relatable to the common man and woman.”

At the weekend, the coronation was a royal affair for the ages, as Frederik and Mary took the throne following the abdication of Queen Margrethe II after 52-years on the throne.

The hugely popular royal couple are set to bring generational change to the Danish throne, more than 23 years after their fairy tale romance started in a Sydney pub during the 2000 Olympics.

Tens of thousands of people braved Copenhagen’s 3C temperature to catch a glimpse of the new monarchs as church bells rang out across the capital.

The crowd broke out into the Danish national anthem and some royal enthusiasts popped bottles of champagne to toast the couple with paper cups.

Mary, 51, was dressed in a white gown while Frederik wore full gala uniform and a blue sash.

The Danish royal transition was a low-key affair.

Frederik became Denmark’s head of state, Mary the Queen and their eldest son Christian, 18, the Crown Prince, the moment Margrethe signed abdication papers at a state council meeting inside Christiansborg Palace, home to the Danish parliament.

The Danish prime minister officially proclaimed King Frederik X — a former party boy prince turned family man — on a balcony at the Danish parliament overlooking the flag-waving masses, as confetti rained down over the crowd.

‘’My hope is to be a unifying King of tomorrow,’‘ he told the crowd.

‘’It’s an assignment I’ve been preparing for my entire life.

“It’s a responsibility I’m taking on with respect, pride and immense joy.’‘

The 55-year-old king said he started this new journey knowing he wasn’t alone.

“I need all the support I can get from my beloved wife, my family and from God,” he said.
