Police said officers were called to reports a man was allegedly assaulted and pushed into the water at about 11.30pm on Sunday.

“He was not seriously injured and was pulled from the water by onlookers,” police said.

Onlookers told 7NEWS the man could not swim, but others were around to rescue him.

Local teacher Val said her granddaughter, who is a young teenager, sent her the video and told her she and her friends were now scared to visit the pier.

Disability support worker Matty Mayne slammed the act as “disgusting”.

“It was just a big cowardly act, disgraceful,” he told 7NEWS.

The trio uploaded the video to Facebook, making no attempt to hide their names or identities. However, the young people have since changed their usernames and deleted profile pictures in a bid to remain anonymous, but it is too late.

Police on Tuesday charged a 14-year-old boy on summons with reckless endangerment and unlawful assault.

He will appear before a children’s court at a later date.
